Since 2017, the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) has provided a total of 994 rice production and support projects in the Visayas island group alone. Western Visayas shares 144 of the 994 projects, while Central Visayas shares 235, and Eastern Visayas region with 615. The 994 rice production support project interventions benefits 264 farmers’ associations and cooperatives (FCAs).
Rice production interventions usually include equipment and machinery, other basic farm tools, rice mill, hermetic storage cocoon, draft animal, fertilizer, pump and engine with complete accessories, hand tractors with complete accessories, and knapsack sprayer to mechanize the production.
Rice production project interventions are typically awarded to jumpstart the production of the FCAs, while rice support projects are later provided to sustain it.
