#PhilGAPSymposium | The Bureau of Plant Industry and Department of Agriculture (DA) 12 staged the National Philippine Good Agricultural Practices (PhilGAP) Symposium in City of Koronadal, South Cotabato from October 3 to 5, 2023.

The event brought together PhilGAP-Certified farm owners, DA officials, and private and chemical companies from all over the Philippines.

As the keynote speaker, Engr. Zamzamin Ampatuan, DA Undersecretary for Special Concerns and for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), emphasized the importance of PhilGAP certification.

“GAP is a measurement of how good is agriculture in the country, for instance,” Engr. Zamzamin said.

“GAP is a benchmark for how we set agriculture,” he added.

DA 12 OIC Regional Executive Director Dr. John Pascual urged the participants to step up their efforts to promote the PhilGAP in the agricultural sector.

“Together, macro-sectors and regions, we must implement the practice to promote sustainability, food security and economic growth,” the director said.

Participating regions also displayed a variety of PhilGAP-certified products at the venue.

This year’s symposium focused on the theme, “Sa PhilGAP wagi ka, ang makabagong gawi sa pagsasaka.”
