#LivestockTraining | After twenty days of hands-on experience in performing Artificial Insemination (AI) on livestock animals, ten AI technicians from Region 12 have completed the training on intensified reproductive management program towards reproductive efficiency in water buffaloes.
The graduation ceremony was held on October 27, in Kabacan, Cotabato.
Participating AI technicians were from the municipalities of Alabel, Kabacan, Alamada, Midsayap, Carmen, Tacurong, Lake Sebu, President Quirino, Lambayong and Tantangan.
This training was initiated under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Unified National Artificial Insemination Program (UNAIP) and one of the initiatives of the DA 12 and Philippine Carabao Center at University of Southern Mindanao to further increase the livestock population in the region.
The twenty-day training course covered lectures and practicum which highlight various AI-technologies.
Among the topics discussed were controlled breeding in water buffaloes, in-situ measurements of ovarian structures and corpus luteum (CL), ultrasonography, Reproductive Organ Management Protocol, reproductive diseases and disorders, palpation and ultrasound imaging of the CL and follicles in animals.
This training was also part of the culminating activity of the DA 12 in celebration of the Livestock and Poultry Month this October.
