#SentinelingProgram | In a bid to revive the hog industry in African Swine Fever (ASF)-stricken areas of Region 12, the Department of Agriculture 12’s Livestock Program distributed sentinel packages to 38 hog raisers in the municipalities of Sultan Kudarat today, November 14.

This initiative was under the DA 12’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program, aiming to bolster the region’s hog production and stabilize pork supply and prices.

The recipients from President Quirino, Esperanza, and Lutayan, received a package comprising feeds, veterinary drugs, and 114 “sentinel” piglets. These sentinel pigs will undergo a 40-day clinical trial period to assess the presence of the ASF virus or disease in their respective areas.

Nancy Votacion, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude to the DA 12 for providing them with an opportunity to rebuild their livelihoods.

“Nais ko pong ipaabot and aking pasasalamat sa DA 12 dahil sa tulong po sa amin na magkaroon ng magandang simula para sa dagdag kita at ikabubuhay namin,” Nancy Votacion said.

President Quirino Municipal Mayor Ma. Katrina Buena Sandigan also applaud the agency’s unwavering support for their hog raisers.
