LOOK: The Department of Agriculture (DA) launched two recently registered traditional varieties on 5 December 2023 at the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research office in Quezon City.
A result of the research initiatives conducted under the DA-Corn Germplasm Utilization through Advanced Research and Development (CGUARD) program, CVRC Glut 21-16 of DA-Cagayan Valley Research Center, commonly referred to as Deko, and Tupi 1 WIT (White Improved Tiniguib), developed by DA-Soccsksargen, are now ready for distribution and commercialization.
Present at the launching were DA Assistant Secretary for Policy Research and Development Noel A. Padre, DA-BAR assistant director Joell H. Lales, University of the Philippines Los Baños-College of Agriculture and Food Science Dean Elpidio M. Agbisit Jr, CGUARD technical expert Artemio M. Salazar, and technical consultant for DA-National Corn Program Candido B. Damo.
The DA-CGUARD program is implemented by DA regional field offices, through the DA-BAR and DA-National Corn Program, in collaboration with the UPLB–Institute of Plant Breeding.
