#SentinelingProgram | The Department of Agriculture Xll’s Livestock Program distributed sentinel packages to 88 hog raisers in the municipalities of South Cotabato from December 12-14, 2023.

DA 12’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program funded this project, which aimed to increase hog production in the area and stabilize the price and supply of pork.

The recipients from Surallah, Columbio, Santo Niño, Norala, Koronadal City and Tantangan received a package comprising of feeds, veterinary drugs, and 264 “sentinel” piglets.

These sentinel pigs will undergo a 40-day clinical trial period to assess the presence of the ASF virus or disease in their respective areas.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa DA Xll dahil sa kanilang tulong na pandagdag sa aming ikabubuhay at magandang opportunity din po ‘to upang mas lalong mapalago ang aming babuyan,” Palma underscored.

Sulpicio Villalobos, Municipal Mayor of Sto. Niño, South Cotabato also expressed his gratitude to the DA XII because of the additional income the hog raisers could generate because of this project to sustain their basic necessities.

“Malaking tulong po sa mga beneficiaries itong sentinelling program para sa pandagdag ng kanilang kita at upang makiisa na rin sa pamahalaan na labanan ang banta ng ASF virus,” Villalobos said.
