LOOK | DA in Region 12 says there are no El Niño reports from LGUs in the Soccsksargen Region
Regional Executive Director John B. Pascual of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA-RFO XII) said that there have been no reports from the local government units (LGU) in Region 12 about being affected by El Niño.
Despite this, the agency has remained proactively prepared for any potential interventions required from them, Pascual pointed out during the Kapihan sa PIA on Thursday, March 14, at the SM City General Santos food court.
Pascual emphasized that the DA remains vigilant and is always ready in the event they need to augment LGUs requests for assistance.
He did not discount the fact that there is a presence of El Niño in the region, but he rationalized that it may not be as severe as the El Niño being experienced in Luzon, Visayas, and some parts of Mindanao.
The DA official said they are currently focused on revitalizing, repairing, and rehabilitating the irrigation systems in Region 12, including the diversion dam, irrigation canal, and the Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP), to mitigate any potential effects of El Niño.
