In support to the government’s effort to manage, contain and control the spread of the African Swine Fever (ASF), the Department of Agriculture in region 12, thru its Regulatory Division and the DA12 Livestock Program, handed over surveillance supplies and disinfectants to the municipality of Antipas, Cotabato.

Municipal Agriculturist Engr. Helen Verdeblanco and Livestock Technician Hilbert Singalivo received the items composed of one gallon alcohol, five boxes needle, eight syringes, two boxes of gloves, 200 pcs. vacuum tubes, 25 pcs. Personal protective equipment (PPEs), six cannister powder disinfectants, one box face mask, two rolls garbage bags and four packs of cotton.

The DA, partner LGUs, and stakeholders is recommending biosecurity measures in preventing the spread of ASF in pig farms.

It is essential to provide training and education to farmers and farm workers on ASF biosecurity measures and to develop alternative biosecurity measures that take into account the specific context of pig farming.
