#NNCNutriMonthLaunch2024 | The 2024 Nutrition Month National Launch, themed “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat,” was officially inaugurated today, July 1, 2024, in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
The event commenced with the planting of fruit-bearing trees at Barangay Morales, an initiative aimed at enhancing children’s nutrition. Following this, participants joined the Nutri-Parade, a lively procession that led them to the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center.
National Nutrition Council Assistant Secretary and Executive Director IV Azucena M. Dayanghirang emphasized the importance of this year’s theme, stating, “We, at the National Nutrition Council, launched this year’s Nutrition Month to raise awareness and as a call to action for everyone to support the PPAN 2023-2028.”
The launch’s activities also featured a press conference and a presentation of the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition by Nutrition Program Coordinator Retsebeth M. Laquihon.
One of the key activities of the event was a community forum dedicated to localizing the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and sharing best practices and lessons learned. The forum, led by National Nutrition Council Nutrition Officer and Nutrition Information and Education Division Chief Jovita B. Raval, included notable participants such as Malungon, Sarangani Municipal Nutrition Committee Chairman Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino, Kiamba, Sarangani Committee on Health Sangguniang Bayan Member Dr. Antonio Yasaña, Brgy. Linangkob, Kidapawan City Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholar Federation, Inc. President Creamhield Bation, Barangay Kawas, Alabel, Sarangani Barangay Nutrition Committee Chair Brgy. Captain Francisco C. Labustro, and Malungon, Sarangani Youth Development Officer II Shiela S. Manocay.
South Cotabato Provincial Nutrition Committee Chair Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. gave importance to the need for sustainable solutions to ensure the health of South Cotabateños and Koronadal City Nutrition Committee Chair Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena, in his closing remarks, urged collective responsibility to promote nutrition, envisioning a future where every child grows up healthy.
The launch concluded with the awarding of the Best Float and Best Exhibit, won by the Municipality of Tampakan and Koronadal City, respectively.
