Thriving Amidst Climate Change: The Inspiring Story of CFEPA in Brgy. Lamlahak, Lake Sebu
Meet the Community Farmers and Empowerment Program Association (CFEPA) β a resilient village of 100% Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Brgy. Lamlahak, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, who are leading the way in climate-resilient agriculture. Despite facing the challenges of climate change, CFEPA has shown incredible adaptability and dedication through the Department of Agricultureβs Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) program.
Through diversified farming techniques and a thriving corn enterprise, this village has become a model of climate resilience. The CFEPA members have received invaluable support from the AMIA and other Programs of Department of Agriculture, including:
– Capacity-building trainings to strengthen their climate resilient farming practices.
– Climate information services and advisories to make informed decisions.
– Livestock support and other agricultural services to diversify income and ensure food security.
– Hauling truck from the Corn Program in support to their hauling and trucking corn enterprise.
Their unwavering commitment and advocacy to help and build one another paves the way for a brighter tomorrow for the village. On their own capacity together with the partnership of the Local Government Unit, they were able to purchase a parcel of land as well as build a humble office owned by the association.
Their journey is a powerful example of how traditional knowledge and modern support can create a sustainable and resilient farming future.
Letβs continue to support our local farmers and empower Indigenous communities like CFEPA to thrive amidst climate challenges. Together, we can build a more resilient and sustainable future.
