#IPPromotionAndCommercialization | In order to promote innovation and protect intellectual property (IP) rights, the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office XII through the Research for Development (R4D) Division hosted a Technology Inventory and Assessment cum Orientation on Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Protocol on May 2, 2024.
The event featured Pia Amabelle Flores, Project Leader of Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management at the University of Southern Mindanao Kabacan, as the resource speaker.
Held at the said agencyโs conference hall and with collaboration with the on-farm Research and Technology Commercialization Coordination Section and Technology Business Incubation, the orientation aimed to equip researchers with a deeper understanding of the significance of safeguarding their innovations through appropriate IP mechanisms. The session also emphasized the importance of fostering a conducive environment for innovation and investment.
Dr. Ray Rodriguez of the DA-RFO 12 R4D Division highlighted that the activity also serves to assess the maturity level of technologies developed within the region, aiding in the identification and protection of potential innovations for commercialization.
Moreover, the initiative seeks to facilitate the transfer and utilization of protected technologies generated from research for development activities, aligning with the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009 (RA 10055) and directives outlined in the DA Memorandum Circular No. 28, series of 2022 (DA Intellectual Property Policy and Technology Transfer Protocol).
