#OnionExpansion | In a concerted effort to boost onion production nationwide, the Department of Agriculture (DA) launched its Onion Expansion Program in Tupi, South Cotabato today, November 14, 2023.
Assistant Secretary James Layug, along with DA 12 officials, its attached bureaus, and agencies, spearheaded the program’s launch.
The initiative aims to address the country’s onion supply shortage and stabilize onion prices, which have significantly increased in recent months.
During the event, Leonel Limbawan, HVCDP Central Office representative for Director Glen Panganiban, emphasized the importance of Tupi in the onion expansion program.
“Tupi will lead the production of onion in Mindanao,” he said.
Geronimo dela Cruz, Project Development Officer of the HVCDP, also highlighted the role of the Tupi Integrated Agriculture Cooperative (TIAC) and the Polo SN Farmers Association in the program’s success.
