SOCCSKSARGEN has achieved a major feat as the first in the country to complete a subproject under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) Scale-Up initiative. On July 15, 2025, officials formally turned over the newly constructed NHW Crossing Fale–Riverside Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) in Sto. Niño, South Cotabato.

The 2.6-kilometer road, valued at Php 46.7 million, is expected to significantly improve access between farming communities and markets, directly enhancing agricultural transport, productivity, and farmer incomes. This pioneering subproject marks a key step in the implementation of the DA-PRDP Scale-Up, a national initiative designed to accelerate rural development through strategic infrastructure investments.

“The completion of this project reflects our commitment to rural growth and agricultural advancement,” said DA-PRDP RPCO XII Project Director Roberto T. Perales during the turnover ceremony. “This is a prime example of how our efforts yield tangible benefits for farmers. By strategically placing such initiatives in production areas, we are helping to increase agricultural output and improve livelihoods. Your involvement is critical to the greater vision of advancing the SOCCSKSARGEN region and empowering its farming communities.”

Sto. Niño Mayor Sulpicio F. Villalobos expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the national government and local stakeholders. “We are truly grateful for the support from the Department of Agriculture and DA-PRDP, which has been essential in bringing this project to life. This road is a vital pathway that will help our farmers reach the market more easily, ultimately boosting their economic standing,” he noted.

Local officials, project implementers, and members of the farming community joined the ceremony to witness the official turnover and celebrate the milestone achievement.

With more infrastructure projects planned under the DA-PRDP Scale-Up initiative, Region 12 is poised to continue its leadership in strengthening agricultural systems and improving the quality of life in rural communities across the region. (Ian Frederick L. Carbonell)
