#PRDPNews | Surallah reached a pivotal breakthrough earlier today, May 2, 2025, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the 7.7-kilometer Sitio Lanas-Datal Binate-Buyos-Siop Farm-to-Market (FMR) Road. Municipal Mayor Pedro M. Matinong Jr. expressed his strong support for the subproject, highlighting its potential to greatly benefit the community.

“The key to improving our lives in remote areas and mountainous regions lies in better roads.” he said. “This project will enable our children to walk to school more easily, ensure that every household has access to sustainable food, and improve the residents’ overall quality of life.”

In addition, this ceremony also marks the first project in Barangay Upper Sepaka under the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP).

DA-RFO XII Regional Technical Director for Operations Zaldy M. Boloron echoed the mayor’s sentiments, emphasizing that the subproject is just the beginning of a broader vision for sustainable rural development: “This is just the start of our long-term plans for rural development. If successful, it will not only drive economic growth in Barangay Upper Sepaka but will also contribute to the overall development of Surallah through our regional convergence initiative,” he explained.

Furthermore, the ceremony was attended by local municipal and barangay officials, as well as project contractors, to celebrate the promising development.

The FMR is also part of the DA-PRDP’s Scale-Up Initiative, designed to improve access to markets, enhance transportation infrastructure, and boost agricultural productivity, particularly for key commodities of Barangay Sepaka, such as corn and coconut. (✏️Ian Frederick Carbonell 📸 Dyey Daquiado)
