KUFDRA: Thriving Through Mallard Duck Egg Production
The Kapaya United Duck Raiser Association (KUFDRA) of Kapaya, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat, is a testament to the power of collaboration and opportunity. Founded with 28 members—25 Ilocano and 3 Ilonggo—under the leadership of President Rogelio R. David, Sr., the group has quickly grown into a thriving community enterprise.
In February 2024, KUFDRA formalized its operations with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). By October, the association’s journey took flight with the arrival of 140 mallard ducks from the Department of Agriculture’s Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) program. Since then, egg production has become the cornerstone of their burgeoning enterprise.
The mallard ducks began laying eggs just weeks after their arrival, and by December, KUFDRA had achieved a gross income of ₱33,001. Prices for fresh duck eggs climbed steadily from ₱8.00 per egg in October to ₱11.50 in December, highlighting the growing demand for their high-quality produce.
Partnerships have been instrumental in KUFDRA’s success. The association supplies fresh eggs to Waje Balot Maker every three days, with the partner personally picking up the eggs. This collaborative relationship has not only increased sales but also reinforced connections within the community.
