The DA-Philippine Carabao Center at University of Southern Mindanao led by Center Director Geoffray R. Atok presented the current situation of carabao development program in Region XII to the newly installed Department of Agriculture-XII Regional Executive Director Robert T. Perales during their courtesy visit on May 23 at Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Director Atok highlighted the center’s carabao industry outlook and the DA-PCC’s services relating to the attainment of the complete carabao value-chain in every province in the region.

In response, Director Perales challenged the agency to intensify and strategize its carabao upgrading program thru artificial insemination to benefit the people’s dairy and meat requirement.

In order to ensure government projects’ sustainability, Perales added that a business-type approach in projects can enhance its sustainability by prioritizing efficiency, accountability, and long-term viability.

In addition, he urged agri-sector key players to prioritize the implementation of plans and programs for a food-secure region as envisions by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Furthermore, Director Atok expressed strong confidence in achieving the projections set forth by DA XII.
