Farmer-members of Norala Seed Growers Agriculture (NOSEGA) Cooperative, celebrated their 1st anniversary today, February 14, with the inauguration of a new 12-ton capacity mechanical grain dryer.
The facility, a collaborative effort between the Department of Agriculture and the NOSEGA Coop, promises to significantly improve rice quality and yields in the region.
Ceremonial switch-on, held earlier in Brgy. Kibid, was led by DA XII Regional Executive Director Roberto Perales, Regional Technical Director for Operations Zaldy Boloron and officials from the Local Government Unit of Norala.
Director Perales reiterated in his talk the DAโs commitment to support local farmers.
“With this drying facility, we want to further boost our production and teach you how to become agripreneurs… Our target and priority now is to increase the income of our farmers,” he said.
NOSEGA Coop, comprised of 32 members managing 300 hectares of rice fields, will directly benefit from the new dryer.
Previously reliant on solar drying, the cooperative faced challenges in consistently producing high-quality seeds.
โSolar drying was unreliable, especially during the rainy season. This new facility will ensure the quality of our produce, improve our seed production, and ultimately benefit all the rice farmers in our community,โ NOSEGA Chairman Jeoffrey Villorente added.
