Recognizing the complexities of development within geographically isolated Ancestral Domains (ADs) where lack of infrastructure and market access contribute to low incomes, the DA-MIADP RPCO 12 Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) Unit organized a crucial training focused on ensuring peace and sustainability in these Indigenous Cultural Communities. The Conflict Sensitivity and Peace Promotion (CSPP) & Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) Training held at London Beach Resort from March 17-20 2025, brought together key stakeholders and development partners dedicated to the well-being of the Indigenous peoples in the region.
The goal was to equip participants with the knowledge to implement projects in a manner that strengthens peace and inclusion, rather than unintentionally fueling conflict.
Attendees included focal persons from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), representatives from Indigenous Political Structures (IPS) and the Local Government Units of Malungon, Tboli, and Pigcawayan. The CSPP sessions emphasized the importance of understanding local conflict dynamics to maximize positive impacts and minimize potential negative outcomes.
Simultaneously, the GRM training focused on establishing effective channels for communities to voice concerns and seek resolutions, ensuring accountability, and promoting positive relationships. This integrated approach underscores DA-MIADP 12’s commitment to not only improving the economic situation of IPs but also nurturing a supportive environment for sustainable development within their ancestral domains.
