Region XII to strengthen climate resiliency through “Adapting Philippine Agriculture to Climate Change (APA) Project”

The Adapting Philippine Agriculture to Climate Change (APA) Project approved by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in March 2023 during its 35th meeting, has a total value of USD 39.2 million (USD 26.3 GCF Grant and USD 12.9 million co-financing) with an additional USD 10.6 million in parallel financing.

The APA Project aims to transform the Philippine agricultural system from one of high vulnerability to one of climate resilience; the project’s goal is to increase the resilience of rural men and women in climate-vulnerable areas who rely on agriculture for a living while also transforming the country’s agricultural system.

This will be achieved through the improvement of farmers’ capacity to develop Climate-Resilient Agriculture (CRA) enterprises and adoption of financially and economically viable CRA practices, as well as capacitating the government and private sector to build support systems for scaling up.

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is the implementing entity with close coordination with the Department of Agriculture (DA) as the primary Executing Entity (EE), the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) as the secondary EE, and their aligned regional and provincial field offices.

Selected provinces from Regions II, V, X, XII and CAR are the primary beneficiaries of the APA project.
