A landmark initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of farmers was launched in Sarangani Province. This effort marks a significant step toward empowering local farmers, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices in the region.

The three recipient associationsโ€”Bulol Awang Farmers Association in Alabel, Muslim Christian Blaan Farmers and Fisherfolk Association in Malapatan, and Pangyan Market Vendors Association in Glanโ€”were each provided with 140 layer chickens. The goal of the project is to help these associations establish or strengthen their poultry farming operations, with the potential for increased income and food production in the coming months and years.

In addition to the chickens, each association received 35 sacks of poultry feed to ensure that the birds are properly nourished during their initial phase of laying. A follow-up delivery of 35 more sacks of feed is scheduled for 2025, providing ongoing support to ensure the sustainability of the project. This provision of both livestock and feed aims to create a foundation for long-term success, allowing the associations to expand their poultry operations and, over time, increase their production capacity.

The project is designed as a communal effort, with all members of the participating associations set to benefit from the resources provided. This collective approach fosters a sense of community among farmers and vendors, encouraging collaboration and shared responsibility in managing the poultry operations. The distribution of chickens and feed is just the beginning of a series of agricultural interventions under the SAAD Dose Program, which continues to prioritize smallholder farmers and local agricultural development in underdeveloped and underserved areas of the country.

Looking ahead, the poultry distribution project offers much more than just the promise of eggs and meat. It represents a shift toward a more resilient and self-sustaining agricultural sector in Sarangani, where farmers are equipped not only with livestock but also with the skills and resources to manage them successfully. This initiative is a significant milestone, but it is only one part of a broader effort to promote rural development, improve agricultural productivity, and create economic opportunities for the people of Sarangani.
