Tupi, South Cotabato – The High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XII recently organized a two-day On-Site Package of Technology Training for selected farmer associations at the Tupi Research and Experiment Station, Brgy. Bololmala, on September 19-20, 2024. This initiative aims to empower local farmers with essential knowledge and skills to enhance their agricultural practices.
A key highlight of the training was the participation of the Regional Soils Laboratory 12, represented by Reynan H. Dumaraog, Senior Agriculturist. He delivered an insightful lecture on Soil Sampling Protocols specifically tailored for onion farmers. His expertise, along with that of Agricultural Technician II, Ms. Katherine May V. Morandante, was instrumental in guiding participants through effective soil management techniques.
In addition to soil sampling, the training covered a range of topics, including Onion Production and Management and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). These sessions were designed to equip farmers with the latest trends and technologies, ensuring they can apply innovative practices in their daily operations.
The involvement of Regional Soils Laboratory 12 in this training underscores its vital role in supporting the agricultural sector of the region. By enhancing farmers’ understanding of soil health and management, the program aims to improve crop yields and sustainability.
Following the success of this training, a series of similar sessions will be conducted on September 24-25, 26-27, October 1-2, and October 8-9 in various locations, including Brgy. Kinilis, Polomolok; Brgy. Malaya, Banga; Brgy. Maligaya, Columbio; and Brgy. Ned, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, respectively.
Overall, the training provides a valuable opportunity for participants to learn, share experiences, and foster a community focused on advancing agricultural practices in South Cotabato.
